Procedure for
Referring Agencies
The goal of Furniture for Families is to redistribute safe, clean,
functional furniture in a professional, dignified manner, from those who
want to share to those who are truly in need. We are a nonprofit, all
volunteer organization. We receive donated usable furniture in our
warehouse and distribute it to local needy families, referred to us by
agencies like yours. All clients must be screened and sponsored by a
caseworker from a social service agency who has been in the home and is
familiar with the needs of the client.
What You Need to Do

Make a home visit and screen your
client to determine actual needs for furniture.

Make copies (for each client) of
the FFF Agency Referral Form.

Complete the form with your
clients, making sure that they understand and sign the form. Be sure the
Wish List contains only items the client truly needs (we want to provide
needed furniture, not upgrade existing furniture).

When the application is complete,
call us for an appointment for you and your client to choose and take
home furniture: (916) 635-0664.

On the day of the appointment,
your clients will need to bring a truck and people to load their
furniture. Instruct your client to bring the completed form to the
appointment. You must accompany your clients when they visit our
warehouse.
We do not deliver furniture nor do
we have loading staff. Each client may only visit our warehouse once.
Some needed items may not be available at the time of the appointment. We
do not hold furniture and all items must be taken during the allotted
appointment time. If your client can’t make it, you may bring
another client who qualifies. If you must cancel, let us know as early as
possible. Cancellations mean everyone loses! Excessive cancellations may
result in loss of privileges for the agency.
Making an Appointment
Once you have received notice that your agency is on our “approved list”,
you are eligible to make appointments with Furniture for Families. Make
your home visit and fill out the “FFF Agency Referral Form” with your
client. List everything they NEED, but please don’t list items they
already have.
Call Furniture for Families starting right at 9 AM on Tuesdays. We don’t
answer before 9, to be fair to all, and we quickly fill our six weekly
appointments. Use re-dial and be persistent. If it keeps ringing, you are
on call waiting and may get the next appointment, so stay on the line. If
you get a busy signal, hang up and re-dial. We schedule one hour
appointments at 9, 10, and 11 AM, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, two weeks in
advance. You may make one appointment per phone call, but may call right
back for a second appointment.
If you get an appointment, you will need to come with your client to the
appointment and bring the completed forms, a truck large enough to safely
haul the furniture in one trip, ropes, and people to load the furniture.
