About Us
How we started….

While volunteering at Twin Lakes Food Bank, I learned that many of our clients
have needs other than food and clothing. There are many families in our area
who have been homeless and finally get shelter, but sleep and eat on the floor
because they have no way to obtain even basic furniture.

Battered women frequently find themselves finally out of their violent
environment, but with seemingly no way to furnish a home.

Beds, tables and chairs, dressers, sofas, and cribs can be the beginning of a
new life with self-respect. Basic furnishings can turn a shelter into a home,
providing comfort, security, and self respect.

At the same time, many more fortunate families have quality furniture that they
no longer need and would welcome a way to put it to good use.

Why not find a way to connect the source with the need?

How we work…

Furniture for Families is a non-profit, all volunteer, privately funded organization.
Our mission is simple:  To provide children and families with beds to sleep on, a
table to eat and study at, and perhaps a dresser to put their things in.

As a furniture bank we solicit and pick up good, serviceable used furniture (no
stained or damaged pieces) on an appointment basis from the El Dorado Hills,
Folsom, and Rancho Cordova areas.  The furniture is stored at our facility for
distribution, free of charge to our clients (over half are children).

All clients must be screened by a local approved service agency and referred by
a caseworker familiar with their specific needs.  FFF provides the furniture to the
client by appointment.

The goal of FFF is to redistribute safe, clean, functional furniture, in a
professional, dignified manner, from those who want to share to those who are
truly in need, free of charge.

How you can help…

We could not exist without the generous support of GenCorp, Teichert, E*Trade,
Sleep Train, Yamas Controls Group, Serrano Women’s Golf Group, Folsom
Presbyterian Church, Lutheran Brotherhood, Empire Ranch Women’s Golf Club
and many others.

Here are some ways you can help:

There are many people in our area who are blessed with so much, and there are
many who are in great need. Here is an opportunity to fill the needs and enrich
the lives of both.

Furniture must be in good working condition.

Furniture needed:

We cannot accept: office furniture, appliances, headboards/wood bed frames,
sleeper sofas, recliners, sectionals, king sized anything, waterbeds, or any torn,
soiled or broken items.

If you would like to make a donation, please call (916) 635-0664.

Furniture for Families is honored to have been selected as “Community
Resource of the Year, 2003” by Alta California Regional Center and nominated
for the Sacramento Hunger Commission’s “Hope Award 2003”. In 2004,
Volunteers of America presented FFF with the “Angel Award”.
